So we are at the fourth hotel in our travels with my ROKU. In this next video, I’ll show you how I got the ROKU working at the Hilton Garden Inn.
}I have noticed in my travels that each hotel property has a different flatscreen TV setup so the key is to make sure you do two things:
- Find out where the HDMI inputs are located on the TV. If the TV is mounted on a pedestal they are most likely located on the back. If the TV is wall mounted they are located on the side.
- Find out how to switch the input sources to HDMI. In some cases the input source button is located on the TV themselves on the side or front mounted or in some cases located on the remote.
For this hotel it used the Samsung TV which was wall mounted. The HDMI inputs were located on the right side so I was able to wire up the ROKU HDMI cable pretty easily. The next challenge was figuring out to switch the video source to HDMI. I looked around the TV and couldn’t see any buttons so I checked the remote and it wasn’t there either.
There must be a way to switch the source and I found it after probing around. I found a joy stick kind of button on back underside of the TV. I pushed it and a small image popped up on the screen and after playing with it for a few minutes I figured out how to switch the source to HDMI. See the video below.
Now I was able to see the ROKU screen! Next I had to configure the ROKU to use the HOOTOO Tripmate travel router as its wireless network. I opened the laptop and logged in through the HOOTOO and I was able to log in to the hotel wireless network and I was up in running.
